Fitness Coaching: My Why
I didn't feel my best, and I did not love myself.
I lacked energy; felt sluggish; unhealthy; didn’t eat well; carried a lot of extra body fat; cared for everyone else's needs before mine. I was under tremendous stress with work and being a single mother. I didn’t feel my best, I DID NOT LOVE MYSELF, and I knew I had to do something. I was convinced I wasn’t taking good care of the body God had given me, either. I wanted to be a healthier mother for my children and have the health and energy needed to care for my parents and anyone else who needed me. But I didn’t feel good at all!
A doctor had even told me I was on the path to having knee replacement surgery because my knees were hurting so bad. Mainly because I sat a lot and never worked out any of the muscles needed to help eliminate the pain. I was starting to feel aches and pain everywhere, and soon doctors were prescribing medications to “fix” everything. So, I started taking medications (even an anti-depressant to “feel” better) and quickly realized they didn’t make me feel any better. I was sure they would only make my future even more miserable.
So, I started taking medications and quickly realized they didn’t make me feel any better.
So, what did I finally do? I hired a personal trainer (who I learned later had multiple sclerosis). Her faith in Jesus was strong, and she showed how giving each day to the Lord, exercising, and eating right could help me overcome all my life challenges. It didn’t take long for me to feel the best I had ever felt. My energy levels skyrocketed; my knee pain went entirely away; I got off every medication I was on; I slept better; I dealt with my stress better and was much happier.

People started noticing too! I started looking younger; I was much more active and even won a 5K against kids my son’s age. My skin looked better, and mood improved, and I could think more clearly. My walk with the Lord grew exponentially, and I learned to give everything, including my health, over to Him. He filled me with His UNLIMITED love and revealed the spiritual gifts He had given me - service and mercy. I learned to enjoy the benefits of caring for my health to take care of others better, and the rest of my life could be my best.
Then one day, God laid on my husband's heart that I should use the gifts I’ve been given and become a personal trainer myself, and I was 48!!! I was told this would be very challenging for me at my age because of all the anatomy I’d have to learn, and the training would be difficult too. I was told most people don’t pass the exam the first few times. But guess what? God saw to it I did pass all my tests, and I passed them the first time. I became a personal trainer! And opened up my studio, FitMix - a place where I could offer customized wellness for fitness, nutrition, and support.

My life is now so different. I absolutely love what I do as a fitness coach. I enjoy using my gifts to take care of others. To love them right where they are. Teach them to see themselves and love themselves the way the Lord sees them, as fearfully and wonderfully made. So that’s why ever since I have become a trainer, I have continued to use the gifts God has entrusted me to help Christian women improve their health and love themselves again so they can lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
